The Different Types of Wisdom

The different types of wisdom:

sakal
- David had this wisdom

1 Sam 18:14
In everything he did he had great success, because the LORD was with him.

chakam
- This is the wisdom that God gave to King Solomon

1 King 4:29 (for King Solomon)

God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore.

1 King 4:30
Solomon's wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the East, and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt.

chokmah
- from chakam
- skill (in war)
- wisdom (in administration)
- shrewdness, wisdom
- wisdom, prudence (in religious affairs)
- wisdom (ethical and religious)

phronimos

- practically wise, sensible
- intelligent, prudent, sensible, wise.

Jesus commanded His disciples to be shrewd - which is to be practically wise, be prudent.

Matthew 10:16 (NIV)
"I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.

Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

sophia
- wisdom, insight, skill (human or divine), intelligence.
- (sophía) is the root of the English terms, "sophistication" and "philosophy" – literally (respectively), "the art of using wisdom," "affection for wisdom."

James 3:17

17But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, [and] easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality,and without hypocrisy.
