1 Samuel 18:14 - Secret of David's Success

1 Samuel 18:14 (NIV)
In everything he did he had great success, because the LORD was with him.

1 Samuel 18:14 (King James Bible)
And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.

When God was with David, everything that he did was successful.
And it seems that the reason that he was successful is because God granted him wisdom.

wisdom = success

The word wisdom here is sakal.

It means having insight and comprehension.

It means to be able to act circumspectly, prudently.

It means to prosper, have success.

This sakal is used in Joshua 1:7 - to prosper.

Joshua 1:7
Only be thou strong and verycourageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it [to] the right hand or [to] the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.

If we want to be successful in our undertakings, we need the wisdom of God.

Note:
circumspectly = The basic meaning of Latin circumspicere is "to look around." Near synonyms are prudent and cautious, though circumspect implies a careful consideration of all circumstances and a desire to avoid mistakes and bad consequences.
